# Building Grid System

Cell-based placement grid with visual rendering, occupancy tracking, and stage progression.

***

### How the Grid Works

The Grid System creates a world-space grid anchored to the [Building Manager's](/easy-build-system/reference/building-manager.md) position.\
Each cell tracks whether it's free or occupied.\
When a part with grid snapping is placed, its cells are marked and their visuals update.\
The grid automatically marks cells on placement and frees them on destruction.

Configure on the [Building Manager](/easy-build-system/reference/building-manager.md) inspector under **Grid Settings**.\
The Grid System requires the **Enable Grid** toggle to be active.

***

### Scripting Examples

Get a cell by grid coordinates:

```csharp
GridCellData cell = BuildingManager.Instance.GridSystem.GetCell(3, 5);
```

Get a cell by world position:

```csharp
GridCellData cell = BuildingManager.Instance.GridSystem.GetCell(worldPosition);
```

Show or hide the grid:

```csharp
BuildingManager.Instance.GridSystem.SetGridVisualsVisible(true);
```

Force rebuild:

```csharp
BuildingManager.Instance.GridSystem.RefreshGrid();
```

Switch rendering mode at runtime:

```csharp
BuildingManager.Instance.GridSystem.SetRenderingMode(GridCellRenderingMode.Instanced);
```

***

### Debug Visualization

The Grid System draws cells in the Scene view, colored by state (green free, red occupied).\
Cell rendering mode and visibility per building mode are configured in the Grid Settings.

Use **Debug Draw Flags** in Grid Settings to control gizmos: Scene View, Game View, or both.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://mindcodeinteractive.gitbook.io/easy-build-system/reference/building-manager/building-grid-system.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
